Miami City Tour & Everglades Description

Miami
Established in 1896, Miami had a small population of 1,500 people. Back then Miami was mostly used for vegetable and citrus plantations. Miami sure has grown since those days. Known today as the melting pot of North and South America, Miami is the habitat for people of all nations, and it sure shows in the variety of cultures one sees here. From Cuban Calle Ocho (Eighth Street) to Creole Little Haiti, to the Arabian architecture of Opa Locka, this is truly a unique place. People usually associate Miami with most of South Florida, however Miami is only a very small part of it. Other cities in the Miami-Dade county area include Miami Beach, Coconut Grove, Hialeah, Coral Gables, and many more. Attractions that Miami has to offer, are the Miami Seaquarium, home of Lolita the Killer Whale; The Parrot Jungle, a wonderful nature park with free flying parrots and other species of birds; The new Miami Heat Arena in Downtown Miami, and of course, world famous South Beach, home of great nightlife, beautiful beaches, extravagant cafe's and major trendsetters. When in Miami be sure to check out the Bayside Mall, the mall by the bay, to see exclusive shops, great restaurants, and live entertainment daily. Sun, sand and supermodels - all call Miami their home.

The Everglades
The Everglades is the largest remaining natural subtropical wilderness in North America. Many people believe the Everglades to be just swamp land infested with countless mosquitoes, and other poisonous and dangerous creatures. This type of thinking lead to the rapid depletion of this great habitat in the first place. The vast variety of animals and vegetation consider the Everglades a safe haven from the ever encroaching human habitats. Alligators, Anhingas, and even the elusive Florida panther make their home just 45 minutes west of downtown Miami. It is hard to imagine that this is what all of South and Central Florida used to look like only 150 years ago. The only way to to see the "river of grass" is by Airboat, since normal boats could never make it though only three feet of water, which is the average water depth of the Everglades.
