Everglades National Park is a wonderful place for birding, with over 300 species of birds throughout the year. Unfortunately, most of the 1.5 million acres in the Park are flooded and essentially out of reach for many birders and photographers. This Private Birding & Photo Boat Safari can you take you and your equipment to areas seldom reached by others.

The use of a power boat provides the most flexibility for photographers, and it is also the only practical way to shoot some of the spectacular island beaches and landscapes at sunrise and sunset. The flat-decked boat has room for one tripod and two guests, and an electric trolling motor is used to maneuver the boat into position for your shots and to silently approach the wildlife.

Please Note: This tour departs from Chokoloskee, Florida (located approximately 3 miles from Everglades City, 34 miles from Marco Island, 40 miles from Naples and 86 miles from Fort Myers). Rates are PER-BOAT for 1 or 2 persons.

Covid-19 Regulations

Certainly, these are challenging times. As such, these experiences have been adapted for the duration of the crisis.  Please know that:

  • All boats and gear are washed/sanitized before each tour.
  • Hand sanitizers and hand washing stations are available to all guests. You are asked to please use them before the tour for your safety and the staff's.
  • Tours are operating under a strict "no-touch" policy, so please excuse the staff for not shaking hands.
  • Your guide will be wearing face covering and all guests are asked to do the same.
  • Most important, staff will conduct your tour privately so that there will be no mixing of groups!

Special Schedule Details

  • Times shown on Availability Calendar are for booking purposes only; morning tours depart at sunrise and evening tours depart approximately 2.5 hours before sunset. Specific departure time will be provided when you call to reconfirm your reservation (details provided with your E-Ticket).
  • Photography and birding opportunities change with the seasons, therefore so do the tours. Sometimes you'll need to run deep into the park's interior to reach a shoot location or species. Other times, the wildlife is close by.
  • Lighting considerations can influence a shoot and many photographers wish to shoot early in the mornings or late in the evenings. However, tidal considerations are even more important, especially for shooting wading birds as they need shallow water to feed. Many photographers enjoy shooting while standing in the water or on a remote sand beach.
  • All private photography tours are customized based on your desires, the season, the wildlife and the weather. You and your guide will discuss your needs, wants and the possible options prior to your tour.

What to Bring

  • Sun protection is very important; bring hats, polarized sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Clothing should be appropriate for the season and the day's weather.
  • The transport boat is open and travels swiftly, so a light jacket is needed on most trips.
  • Please be sure to bring protective footwear that you do not mind getting wet, or even muddy.
  • Flip-flop type sandals are not appropriate.
  • Please bring whatever you wish to eat or drink, but please adhere to the "Leave No Trace" policy.
  • Please bring at least 1 liter of water per person as hydration is very important.
  • A small "six pack" cooler with a frozen water bottle is great for your drinks and snacks.
  • Camera and accessories
  • Binoculars and field glasses are also a good idea.
